Mike Kertscher

Bringing over 15 years of combined racing experience racing karts, mini-sprints, super modifieds, midgets, 360 and 410 sprint cars Mike Kertscher sites behind the wheel. With a background in high performance driver training his day consists of a management position at Elkhart Lake’s Road America. He’s enjoyed many racing successes which have included many feature victories, rookie of the year honors, and track championships.

The Team

Since it’s inception in 2007, the team has been carrying on a winning tradition. Owned by Jim and Patty Bell, this consistent front-running team is always a crowd favorite. The familiar number 80K is meticulously maintained each and every week by a dedicated cast of individuals who have been involved in sprint car racing for many years.

The Car

Chassis built entirely of chrome molly tubing professionally welded to perfection. With an overall combined weight (with driver) of 1375 pounds, this vehicle enjoys being in a power-to-weight ratio class with very few others. With an overall wheelbase of 88″, this precision piece of equipment is outfitted with the lightest and strongest parts available. Materials include carbon fiber, titanium, and aluminum of the highest grades. To reduce weight and increase horsepower, no clutch or starter is used, a direct drive setup is used to deliver the power to the ground.

Engine

Built and maintained by a world-leading sprint car engine manufacturer, this 410 cubic inch, all aluminum engine has a peek horsepower which approaches 900. This power plant features a dry sump oiling system along with a state-of-the-art mechanical methanol fuel injection. Each cylinder has an intake surface of close to 3″ in diameter and features dual fuel injection points per cylinder.

The Interstate Racing Association (IRA) is dedicated to providing a format that is entertaining while maintaining the competitive and challenging nature of spring car racing.
